What it is
IGF-1 DES is a naturally occurring IGF-1 variant produced by proteolytic cleavage in vivo. The truncation increases binding affinity for the IGF-1 receptor and reduces binding to IGF-binding proteins. Synthetic IGF-1 DES is sold in research markets, often with claims of localized growth effects.
What the evidence shows
Preclinical studies show potent IGF-1 receptor activation and anabolic signaling in muscle cells. There are no published human trials of injectable IGF-1 DES for body composition or performance. Claims of site-specific muscle growth are speculative.
Risks & unknowns
As with other IGF-1 analogs, risks include hypoglycemia, organ growth, insulin resistance, and theoretical cancer promotion. The truncated form is less studied than native IGF-1 or mecasermin, so long-term safety is especially uncertain.
Legal / regulatory status
IGF-1 DES is not FDA-approved and is prohibited by WADA under S2.
